Swales discussed the different characteristics that live in a discourse community we are constantly in discourse communities whether we know it or not. This can be people who share the same values as us or maybe even disagreements which can cause dialogue about the issue which is discourse within itself.

I feel like friend groups are great example of discourse communities. The many different kinds of people blending into one can leave the option to embrace or fear the diversity. Text group chats that are made up of people of only a certain class or club are a common discourse community I belong to. A shared goal for those groups would be to do well in the class with each others help. This would pertain to the same genre because we are all in the same classroom, which would be the same subject. Our way of communication would be through the text messaging and all of our information is important is relevant because it is specified to this class in order to help one another. There has not been a discourse community I have been introduced to that I resisted. But, I could see myself resisting one if the intentions are questionable or if I don’t agree with something I disagree with.
